App analytics, written in complete sentences.

Pipeline Nodecore trains product teams to instrument an application, read a cohort without theatre, and take a defensible position in the room that decides what ships next.

From the journal

Recent arguments, not recaps

We publish when a measurement habit is doing quiet damage. The archive is short on listicles and long on named events.

  1. Vanity metrics that still fool product boards
  2. Naming events so your future self survives
  3. Why DAU is a poor north star for utilities

Cohort Signal

Twelve weeks on constructing cohorts that match how people actually return to an app, then reporting those curves without the usual coloured-line theatre. Taught by Dr Miriam Pell from the Signal Room in Finningly and remotely.

You leave with an event contract for one live product, a retention narrative the rest of the company can disagree with honestly, and a named limitation: we do not cover paid-media attribution.

Studio doctrine

Four refusals we teach against

Benefits, inverted. Most App Analytics tuition sells tools. We spend the first fortnight unselling them.

01

No unnamed events

If an engineer cannot point to the commit that fires a property, it does not enter a board slide. Taxonomy is treated as product work, not a housekeeping chore.

02

No average users

A mean session length hides the people who bounce after onboarding and the people who live in settings. Cohorts first, summaries later, and only if they survive a challenge.

03

No borrowed north stars

Copying another company’s DAU target is how utilities start pretending they are social networks. We design measures from the job the app actually does in the United Kingdom and wherever else you ship.

04

No silent dashboards

A chart that cannot be narrated in two minutes is decoration. The Signal Room exists so teams practise speaking the data before they present it.

Voices with a grain of grit

Cohort Signal made me stop averaging retention across the whole install base. The week we split first-session completers from the rest, the activation debate at our Leeds office finally had a shape.

★★★★☆

The Event Taxonomy Clinic is slower than a vendor onboarding. That is the point, though I wished the homework had a second pass on Android background events — we still argue about those internally.

If the dashboard already exists, start with the contract behind it.

Fees are published without checkout. Write to the studio if a House Commission or the next Cohort Signal intake is the better fit.
